Using AR to Standardize and Simplify Machine Maintenance and Training.
Improve efficiency, increase safety, and build a more skilled workforce with solutions designed specifically to meet the needs of manufacturing organizations
From OSHA regulations to environmental and equipment standards, manufacturers face a constant pressure to stay compliant. Training must not only meet regulatory requirements but also stick with employees on the floor, where mistakes can be costly and dangerous.
We help organizations design learning that addresses the specific safety needs of each role and facility, reducing incidents and preparing teams for audits—without disrupting operations.
High turnover and talent shortages make it critical to get new employees productive quickly. Off-the-shelf programs often miss the mark—they’re too generic to address the realities of the plant floor.
Custom onboarding and HR learning solutions are more effective because they reflect your processes, culture, and roles. The challenge is scaling this kind of tailored approach consistently across sites while keeping pace with hiring demands.
Manufacturing environments are fast-paced and constantly evolving. New equipment, process changes, and efficiency targets put ongoing strain on teams. Without proper training, operations risk downtime, errors, and inconsistent quality.
Don’t let your operations go down for lack of preparation—meeting these challenges requires clear, role-specific learning that fits the flow of work. With world-class learning experiences from MindSpring, manufacturers can keep production moving while building the skills needed to adapt and excel.
We understand that one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why we offer tailored solutions to address the unique challenges facing your manufacturing operation. From off-the-shelf training to fully custom immersive experiences, our team can help make an impact.
We transform complex procedures and SOPs into clear, role-specific training that employees can apply immediately. By focusing on real operational workflows, we help reduce errors, improve consistency, and keep production running smoothly.
Our assessments identify skill gaps before they impact performance. With data-driven insights, manufacturers can target learning where it’s needed most and build stronger, more adaptable teams.
From strategy to design, we create custom programs that align learning with business goals. Ongoing evaluation ensures they remain effective, scalable, and measurable across shifts and sites.
Simulations and practice-based learning give employees the chance to apply knowledge in safe, realistic environments. This hands-on approach improves retention, builds confidence, and prepares workers for high-stakes tasks without disrupting operations.
Using AR to Standardize and Simplify Machine Maintenance and Training.
MindSpring partnered with a leading global manufacturing organization specializing in cutting-edge paper converting equipment for napkins, paper towels, and more. Ensuring well-trained operators was crucial to tackle the challenge of maintaining and troubleshooting the specialized machinery. Without skilled operators, productivity and revenue suffered. The manufacturer’s typical solution involved sending staff with paper manuals for on-site training, a costly and inefficient process due to travel and time. They approached MindSpring with a challenge: to create an augmented reality (AR) training experience that captures expert knowledge, making it repeatable and valuable for customers compared to traditional methods.
To meet the challenge, MindSpring worked closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) from the company to record and document the best training from the most experienced trainers. Filtered through the best practices in learning science, MindSpring’s instructional designers mapped a training plan that moved seamlessly from mixed reality pre-training to a full step-by-step simulation that locked directly onto the machine. To achieve this, MindSpring:
MindSpring’s interactive AR experience enabled the manufacturing company to implement a more efficient and effective training program— for both themselves and their customers. By replacing on-site training with a headset, loaded with training and troubleshooting guides, the company and its clients were able to:
Streamline Maintenance and Service Support While Increasing Efficiency
A global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplier for major auto manufacturers faced a challenge: they had a limited number of trained employees available to set up and service machines at their customers’ locations. Finding and retaining talent was a common problem in manufacturing, but this company was growing and acutely felt the strain. MindSpring not only needed to improve efficiency within the maintenance and service support department but also needed to standardize third-party training for customers, expedite service-call resolutions, and democratize access to institutional knowledge. The right information needed to be in the right place at the right time. Furthermore, workers needed to have their hands free to perform tasks in an environment that could, at times, be quite noisy.
MindSpring created, captured, and curated a series of firstperson Point-of-View (POV) videos of subject matter experts (SMEs) performing critical processes. Once the footage was captured, MindSpring’s editors layered on narration, visual cues, and engaging graphics to provide a comprehensive step-by-step program that:
By implementing this solution, the auto part OEM supplier was able to:
SAL & PAULY’S Pizza Shop is an animated interactive game designed specifically to help employees learn the SAP system. This game provides context to the principles of SAP and lean manufacturing, translating what might be confusing or tedious numbers into engaging interactions that educate employees using the latest technology available.
A furniture manufacturer switched their ERP service to SAP. This change rippled through every plant. Employees on the plant floor didn’t understand the process, weren’t making the correct decisions and were struggling with the concepts. As a result, training was called and in-class training began, but the workers had no context. They didn’t “get it.”
We created an animated interactive game called “SAL & PAULY’S Pizza Shop.” The game worked on exactly the same rules and principles used by SAP on the plant floor. Every rule, every scan point, every order.
Plant employees were asked to play the game for the first 30 minutes of in-class training. They were ranked, scores were posted, prizes offered. They loved it.
For the rest of the two day training, instructors were able to reference the characters in the game and the situations that they were in to provide context to the principles of SAP and lean manufacturing and create a working relationship between the game and real life.
Create a context for the plant employees where they could understand the concepts of lean manufacturing and the way SAP worked on the plant floor. The result? Not only did the employees enjoy the experience but they were able to better understand complex principles by building off of the gaming exercise as a base for continued training.
We begin all engagements with a discovery session to help us fully understand your challenges. From there, we will create a tailored solution to meet your specific needs.
